Mecameubles

Declaration FSC

Mécameubles has a certification for the production of FSC products since 27th of November 2009. That step naturally integrated with the certification of Decospan and shows its commitment to the sustainable management of wood resources.

We ask our suppliers to avoid as much as possible wood or wood fibres from following categories:

  1. Illegally harvested wood.
  2. Wood harvested in violation of traditional and civil rights.
  3. Wood harvested in forests where high conservation values are threatened by management activities.
  4. Wood harvested in forests being converted to plantations or non-forest use.
  5. Wood from forests in which genetically modified trees are planted.

The eco-social FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) label guarantees that a wood based product (e.g. furniture) was produced with respect for procedures that guarantee the sustainable management of forests. FSC is an international, independent and non-governmental organization established in 1993 by business representatives, social groups and environmental organizations.

Each company in the business chain that uses wood originated from FSC-certified forests commits itself to respect the 10 FSC principles and criteria. It is audited on a regular basis by an independent organization to validate its certification (COC= Chain of Custody). Certified products can be recognized by the FSC label (www.fsc.org).

Declaration PEFC

PEFC (Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification Schemes) is an eco-label that was created in 1999 on the initiative of forest owners of six European countries.

This certification is now present all over the world and takes into account the specific characteristics of each country and national law. PEFC’s ambition is to prove that it is possible to harmonize forest management with the increase of the demand for wood or, in other words, that our actual and future need for wood can be met with respect for nature.

The use of the PEFC logo on a wood product indicates that the timber used in its production originates from sustainably-managed forests. In 2009 Mécameubles followed Decospan’s example and joined the Chain of Custody PEFC in order to offer its environment-conscious customers PEFC-certified products (www.pefc.org).
