About the role

At Decospan, we create a world full of favourite places – with veneer at the heart of it. As a Wood Buyer, you secure the right veneer, at the right moment, through strong and sustainable partnerships across the globe.

You combine hands-on veneer parcel inspections and negotiations with a forward-looking view on market dynamics, availability and risk. In a relational business where trust, integrity and continuity outweigh short-term gains, you take ownership of long term and sustainable supply. You work closely with the buying team, report directly to the Wood Director, and spend on average 2–3 days per week on the road.

Over time, this role can grow towards broader responsibility in strategy, budgeting and team direction within veneer buying.

What you do

  • Source veneer across Europe, building long-term, win-win partnerships with mills, traders and suppliers.
  • Travel frequently to inspect parcels, assess quality and secure availability in the long term.
  • Manage the full buying flow end-to-end: scouting, negotiation, ordering, follow-up and evaluation.
  • Assess veneer as a natural product — understanding origin, grading, variation and technical feasibility.
  • Anticipate market and geopolitical shifts, translating insights into clear sourcing strategies.
  • Make well-founded decisions under pressure, understanding the impact of availability on production.
  • Report transparently and keep stakeholders aligned: say what you do, do what you say.
  • Continuously strengthen supplier mix, knowledge and long-term supply security.

Who you are

  • An experienced buyer within veneer, wood or another natural-product industry.
  • Commercially strong, relationship-driven and focused on sustainable partnerships, not spot deals.
  • Strategically minded yet hands-on; you combine market insight with decisive action.
  • Analytical and structured, using data to support budgets and sourcing decisions.
  • A strong negotiator with high integrity and a clear sense of responsibility.
  • Comfortable travelling several days per week across Europe.
  • Fluent in professional English; additional languages are a plus.
  • The ideal candidate can be based anywhere in Europe and is willing to travel frequently to our headquarters in Belgium, in addition to regular visits to suppliers across the region.
